General
Podcast directories update listener analytics on your Castos dashboard at varying speeds, with some taking up to 24 hours to reflect recent activity. So, if a follower listens to an episode today, you might not see those stats until tomorrow.
Some platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify for Podcasters provide listener analytics in your account, including proprietary data not shared with Castos or other podcast hosts.
Castos Analytics measures as 1 listen/download when someone:
- Presses
Play
and listens for roughly one minute of audio or the episode is downloaded from a podcast app either manually or automatically. - Additionally, Castos will only count multiple listens/downloads of same episode from the same IP address as 1 listen. If the same episode is listened to after 24 hours, it will count as two listens.
A Few Changes
- Apple Watch Downloads: iPhones with Apple Watches (even if those users did not listen from Apple Watch) were found to have significantly inflated podcast analytics for all podcast hosts, not just Castos. Across podcast hosts, IAB's guidance is to exclude them fully.
- iOS 17 Changes to Apple Podcasts: Apple changed some behavior for Apple Podcasts subscribers to podcasts in iOS17 and how auto-download functions. This change was good to track podcast listenership but could explain a downturn in listens of a certain time period.
