Quickstart Guide: Seriously Simple Podcasting and Castos

Castos provides our creators with the opportunity to manage podcasts and episodes directly from WordPress with our Seriously Simple Podcasting plugin.

Before You Start

You'll need:

  • A Castos account (start your free trial)
  • Your podcast title and description
  • Cover art (3000×3000 pixels, JPG or PNG, under 500KB)
  • Your first episode audio file (MP3 recommended)

New to Seriously Simple Podcasting and your first podcast

When you first activate Seriously Simple Podcasting, you'll be taken to our onboarding wizard to create your first podcast.

  1. Welcome: Enter the title of your new podcast and your podcast's description (you can always change this later) and click Proceed.
  2. Cover: Upload a podcast cover image if you have one ready and then click Proceed. If you don't have a cover image ready, don't worry, you can skip this step and upload one later.

Need help creating a podcast cover image? Use our free podcast cover image generator Dynamo to create high-quality cover images (and even episode images) in minutes. No login required. 🙂

  1. Categories: Select your primary podcast category and then click Proceed.
  2. Hosting: If you haven't started a trial yet you can do so now or if you already have, you can grab your API token and click Enter my API details to connect to Castos

You can click on Let's Start to create your first episode or Go to Dashboard to head to your main WP Admin dashboard.

After completing the wizard, we would recommend going to Podcasting ->  Settings -> Feed Details to verify and complete your podcast's feed details.

Existing Seriously Simple Podcasting user connecting to Castos

Step 1: Connect to Castos

  1. Go to Podcasting → Settings → Hosting
  2. Enter your API token (find your API token)
  3. Click Connect

Step 2: Sync to Castos

  1. Return to Podcasting → Settings → Hosting
  2. In the Sync to Castos section, check the checkbox for your podcast
  3. Click Trigger Sync

The Sync Process

When you trigger a sync, Castos will begin to import your episodes. After the episodes are created at Castos, we return and replace your original episode file URL with a Castos-hosted episode file URL. We also return a Castos episode and file ID to the post which will be stored in custom fields. These IDs much always be maintained.

NOTE Episodes and most podcast feed settings must always be published and managed from SSP. Making changes directly to the Castos dashboard will not push back to your WordPress site.
