Migrate your podcast from another host to Castos
Move your existing podcast from another host to Castos without losing subscribers or episode history.
Before You Start
Gather this information:
- Your current RSS feed URL (use our lookup tool if needed)
- Login credentials for your current podcast host
Check these items:
- Your RSS feed is unlocked (see Unlock Podcast's RSS feed if you receive a "locked" error)
- All episodes you want to migrate are visible in your feed (see: My imported feed is missing episodes)
Choose your path:
- Castos dashboard only: Follow the steps below
- WordPress with SSP: See Import into WordPress with SSP below
Import Your Podcast into Castos
Step 1: Start the Import
- Sign in to your Castos dashboard
- Click Imports → Import A New Podcast
- Enter your current RSS feed URL
- Wait for validation ("Valid RSS feed URL" appears)
- Click Next
Step 2: Review and Confirm
- Verify the podcast details and episode count (If episodes are missing, see My RSS Feed Is Missing Episodes)
- Check the authorization box confirming you have permission to import
- Click Next
Step 3: Wait for Import
Import time varies based on your episode count and file sizes—from a few minutes to several hours for large catalogs. You'll receive an email when the import completes.
Step 4: Verify Your Import
- Go to your Castos dashboard
- Open the imported podcast
- Confirm all episodes appear and audio files play correctly
- Review podcast details (title, description, cover art) and update if needed
Import into WordPress with Seriously Simple Podcasting
Use this method if you want to manage your Castos-hosted podcast through WordPress.
Step 1: Import the RSS Feed
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Podcasting → Settings → Import
- Enter your current RSS feed URL
- Select the podcast to import into (or create a new one)
- Check Import podcast data (Title, Description, Cover Art, etc.)
- Click Begin Import Now
- Click OK to confirm
Step 2: Verify Feed Details
Go to Podcasting → Settings → Feed Details and confirm all podcast metadata imported correctly.
Note: The SSP RSS feed may only show 10 episodes initially. To display more, update the setting for "Max episodes per feed" in the Feed Details.
Step 3: Connect to Castos
If you haven't already connected SSP to Castos:
- Go to Podcasting → Settings → Hosting
- Enter your API token (find your API token)
- Click Connect
Step 4: Sync to Castos
- Return to Podcasting → Settings → Hosting
- In the Sync to Castos section, check the checkbox for your podcast
- Click Trigger Sync
Redirect Your Old RSS Feed
Important: Complete this step only after verifying your import is correct. Redirects are permanent.
A redirect tells podcast directories to look for your podcast at its new Castos RSS feed URL. Without a redirect, existing subscribers won't receive new episodes.
Find Your Castos RSS Feed URL
- In your Castos dashboard, click Settings for your podcast
- Go to Distribution → Visibility
- Copy your RSS feed URL
Set Up the Redirect
Instructions vary by host. Here are the most common:
| Host | Steps |
|---|---|
| Libsyn | Settings → Advanced Tools → Edit (Feed & Website Redirects) → Paste URL in "Feed Redirect URL" → Save |
| Buzzsprout | Podcast Settings → Cancel/Redirect Podcast → Redirect Your Podcast Feed → Follow prompts |
| Anchor/Spotify for Creators | Settings → Distribution → Enter Castos URL → Redirect my podcast |
| Podbean | Settings → Feed → Advanced Feed Settings → Paste URL in "Redirect to a New Feed" → Update Options |
| Simplecast | Podcast Settings → Distribution → Advanced Settings → Paste URL in "RSS Feed Redirect" → Save |
| Transistor | Show Settings → Advanced Settings → Paste Castos URL in "Your RSS Feed to Another URL" → Save Changes |
| SoundCloud | Settings → Subscriber Redirect → Content → Enter Castos URL → Save Changes |
| Podigee | More Options → Enter Castos URL in New Feed URL → Save |
| Acast | Settings → Show redirection → Paste URL → Redirect |
Verify the Redirect
Enter your old RSS feed URL in a browser (Chrome or Firefox). It should automatically redirect to your Castos RSS feed.
Keep Your Old Account Active
Keep your previous hosting account active for at least 4 weeks after setting up the redirect. This ensures all podcast directories recognize the change before you close the old account.
Which RSS Feed Should You Use?
If you use WordPress with SSP with Castos, you'll have two RSS feeds:
| Feed | Best For |
|---|---|
| Castos RSS feed | Most users. Reduces server load on your WordPress site. Used automatically by Castos integrations (Spotify, Amazon). |
| SSP RSS feed | Users who want to keep their domain name in their RSS feed |
Both feeds show the same content when configured identically.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| "Feed is locked" error | Unlock your imported RSS feed |
| Missing episodes after import | My imported RSS feed is missing episodes |
| Import taking too long | Large podcasts can take several hours. You'll receive an email when complete. |
| Episodes won't play after import | Verify the import completed. If issues persist, contact support. |
